Sometimes it helps to know you are not alone.

You may not know this, but as a therapist, I am also in therapy! I like to practice what I preach, which is why I am sharing a few helpful tips to get started with therapy in Bethesda.

It’s important to not only continue on my own journey of growth but also continue to remind myself what my clients are experiencing. So that nervousness and hesitation you feel before making the call? Yeah, I have felt that too.

Calling a Therapist can be hard! And if you’re not careful, it can be easy to push off or postpone. But if you are honest with yourself about your struggles, you know you shouldn’t wait much longer to seek support. Hopefully, these helpful tips to get started with therapy in Bethesda can ease your concerns.

Personally, I understand the importance of being open and honest about what I need in order to find the right fit. So, I accept the feelings that come along when I typically try to talk myself into procrastinating, and make the call and book the appointment.

So here are some helpful tips to get started with therapy in Bethesda:

Be Open

Once you have found a therapist to contact, be sure to share with them openly about why you are seeking counseling in Bethesda. This helps us know if we are able to help and support you, and if we are not trained in a specific area, we can then refer you to someone who has that experience.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions

Again, we won’t know if we are a good fit unless you share what it is you are seeking in way of support. Is there a specific modality you are interested in, like hypnosis or EMDR? Ask me if I am trained in that.  Is there a certain situation you are going through and you want to know if I am experienced working with similar struggles? Just ask me.

Understand that it’s ok if we are not a good fit

My feelings won’t be hurt, promise. Ultimately, we just want you to get the support you need.

Schedule an appointment as soon as possible

You deserve to heal. You are worthy of working through your struggles. Pushing it off longer only means the issue or crisis goes unresolved and will come back up. Work it out, process it, and seek support and healing from a Bethesda Therapist, today.

So, while I know it can be intimidating and feel vulnerable to make a call to a Bethesda Therapist (remember, I do it too), just know that this first step will help get the ball rolling and it may just be easier than you think!
